REFLECTIONS ON THE LOCKDOWN

Dear Kloof High family,

Once we get through his difficult period, and we will, we will be able to share many lockdown tales.

It has a sense of unreality about it. From experiencing a smooth, routine end to the academic programme, and a highly successful matric dance, we found ourselves having to be subjected to a “new normal” characterised by fear and uncertainty on so many levels.

I would like to pay tribute to my staff. They and their families face the same fear and uncertainties, medical and financial, as the rest of society. Far from enjoying an extended holiday, they have been hard at work ensuring that learners are able to continue with their studies at home via Google Classroom, with the invaluable assistance of Mr Palmer. Knowing them as I do, you can rest assured that, when we do return, they will display the same commitment and dedication to ensuring that we recover lost academic ground.

I salute them.

Many of our Kloof High family seem never to rest. Mrs Nicholls and Miss van Wyk have been critical in facilitating important communication and messaging from the Governing Body and myself throughout this period. They continue to do so, particularly via the D6 and Facebook.

Do make a point of visiting our new Kloof High Website, (www.kloofhigh.co.za) Miss van Wyk can be justifiably proud of this fine achievement, yet another example of progress and renewal in this, our 60th year.

On another positive note, we are absolutely thrilled at the quantity and quality of Applications for 2021 received thus far. (To be confirmed when we reopen) This is certainly true too, of the scholarships we have awarded.

My Senior Management team have been wonderfully supportive. Mr Munsamy has been hard at work, preparing analyses and Term 1 reports, while also tweaking our timetable for Term 2.

None of us know, for certain, when that will begin. I can reassure you all that Dr Zulu, our S.E.M, is in constant contact with us and I will post any definite information we receive on the D6, as soon as I am able to do so.

For the learners, particularly the Matrics of 2020, I have a simple message: we have your backs. We ask that you are disciplined in your studies at home and return to school with a real determination to make a success of this year, with the support of your parents and the Kloof High staff. Together, we can do this and we will!

In a time of crisis, we are rediscovering our patriotism and our shared humanity

May God bless you and your families and may he keep you safe.

Yours sincerely
