The importance of rest/recovery

Dear Parents and Learners

As we know staying active is really important, not only for our physical health but also for our mental health, but today I want to talk to you about resting and how during this lockdown we can use the time to give our body some much-needed rest.

Rest or Recovery is just as important to the body as doing physical activity. It is okay to take some of this time to allow your body and mind to rest especially with the busy and fast-paced lives we live.

Rest days don’t necessarily mean sitting on the couch and doing nothing. We can rest and indulge in more passive activities or hobbies that we don’t usually have time for such as:

  • Scrapbooking, painting, drawing or other creative outlets
  • Puzzles, Sudoku’s and other family games
  • Reading different Genres

Rest and recovery have many different benefits for the body such as:

  • Restocking glycogen or energy stores
  • Allowing muscles to repair themselves, therefore, aiding in strength improvements
  • Minimizing Physical and Mental Fatigue
  • Reduces the risk of suffering from an overuse injury
  • Avoiding burnout
  • Allows your body to repair and rejuvenate itself

Taking a bit of time to rest will allow you to get back to activities, be it physical or intellectual, feeling energized and ready to tackle them head-on.

Remember to stay safe and stay at home whenever possible.

Yours sincerely

Carla
