This has and always will be “One Family – One School” Angela Nicholls – Class of 1991

We were very blessed and lucky enough to have great teachers at Kloof High all the way through high school (although I am sure 90% of us wouldn’t agree with that at the time). One that really stood out for me was Ms Ortmann who taught me Biology. She was always so professional, kind, caring, and above all kept the lessons interesting.  She always pushed us to do our best. Where ever she is now I hope she knows how much of an impact she made to so many of us.

I loved everything about school during my time at Kloof – the friendships, I still have contact with most of my friends from then almost 30 years later, the Derby Days, fun school events like Looney ‘lympics.

When I got a chance to come in for an interview with the Principal at Kloof High at the time, it was completely surreal. The strangest thing coming back to a place that was such a big part of your life, but now on the other side. I was blown away when I was offered the job and couldn’t wait to start back at the place that helped mould who I am today.

My eldest daughter was so extremely shy, and when it came to choosing a high school I had to be very careful. It was a decision that could either make or break her – I had a gut feeling that this would be the school for her and I went with it. I knew she would be well looked after and would thrive – from a shy little girl who never said a word she absolutely blossomed and grew into this confident young woman. She is now in 3rd year varsity and still fondly talks about her years at Kloof High. My youngest daughter is now in Grade 10 at Kloof and a completely different child, she is very sporty, and when choosing there were so many different factors I had to keep in mind. She was adamant that she wanted to come to Kloof and it felt like by coming to Kloof she would be joining the “family” I had become so much a part of. This was another good decision as she is loving school, very involved in sport, mainly hockey and swimming, is a member of the RCL, and is always happy to come to school and be a part of everything on offer.

The only message I have for current students is to just embrace your school life, I know everyone says the same thing, it will go by in a flash, these are the best years of your life….. but honestly, listen to those words! Every single staff member at Kloof High is here to make sure that you have the best education possible, here for you, to make sure you are safe and happy, we wouldn’t be here working in a school if we didn’t love working with young adults. We are always here – to help you become “the best that you can be”! This has and always will be “one family – one school”

Angela not only spent 5 years being a pupil at Kloof High School but has dedicated 18 years of her working life to Kloof High as well. Thus we thought it would be appropriate for Angela to have the very first brick on the wall at Kloof High and you can purchase yours now too.
